Oscar de la Hoya

The champ Oscar de la Hoya is back to fight in Las Vegas with a big match set for next weekend on May 5.

Oscar de la Hoya will fight to retain his WBC super welterweight title against Floyd Mayweather Jr. who is currently recognized as the welterweight champion and is considered the top pound-for-pound boxer in the world. The fight will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Other upcoming boxing matches will see boxers including Ricky Hatton, Miguel Angel Cotto and Jermain Taylor take to the ring.

Drama Desk Awards

The Drama Desk Award nominations were announced today with new musical LoveMusik leading the pack.

With 12 nominations, LoveMusik looks to be a big winner when the awards are presented on May 20 at the Lincoln Center. Following closely behind are four productions with 10 nominations each, including The Coast of Utopia, Curtains, Legally Blonde and Spring Awakening. Kristen Chenoweth, herself nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, will host the 52nd Annual Drama Desk Awards.

The Cat Empire

The Cat Empire is hitting the road this summer with a slew of dates announced across Europe and North America.

The Australian group will perform at individual shows and festivals in support of their latest album, Two Shoes. The tour will kick off in California with a few shows scheduled in early May before the empire heads to Europe where they will play festivals including Glastonbury in the UK and Rock am Ring in Germany. In late June, the band will return to North America and visit cities including Nashville, Toronto and New York.

Cricket World Cup

The 2007 Cricket World Cup is gaining intensity with only four teams remaining in the seven-week long competition.

The Semi Final rounds begin today with Sri Lanka facing New Zealand at the host venue of Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. Tomorrow Australia will battle South Africa in the second Semi Final game at Beausejour Stadium, Gros Islet, Saint Lucia. The Final will take place on April 28 at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. The tournament began on March 11 and was held at cricket grounds throughout the West Indies.

Doubt Film

Philip Seymour Hoffman will star in the upcoming film adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Doubt.

Hoffman is a successful stage and film actor having won an Academy Award for his role in the film Capote and numerous other recognitions. He is currently starring onstage in the romantic comedy Jack Goes Boating. The film version of Doubt will also star Meryl Streep who has appeared in theatre roles for productions including The Taming Of The Shrew. Filming is set to begin in New York this December.
