US Open Tennis

The final Grand Slam tournament of the year has arrived with competition in the US Open beginning next week.

The finest tennis players in the ATP and WTA tours will meet in New York on Monday to begin two weeks of play in the tournament. The top seeded players heading into the renowned tournament are Roger Federer for the men and Amelie Mauresmo for the women. The world's top tennis players will be tested again in November for the Tennis Masters Cup.

The Wedding Singer

Constantine Maroulis has just announced that he will join the cast of the Broadway musical adaptation of The Wedding Singer.

The American Idol finalist will stay with the production for an 8-week run beginning in early September. Maroulis will be stepping into the role of Sammy, the dimwitted friend of the title character Robbie Hart, played by Stephen Lynch. A New York native, Maroulis was one of the top twelve contestants on the 2005 season of American Idol.

The Journey Continues

Def Leppard and Journey have announced a new batch of shows to add a third leg to their joint tour.

The classic rock bands have been on the road together since June 23 and have now extended dates to continue into early November. Other co-headlining bands touring North America this fall include Aerosmith and Motley Crue, who are currently on a massive stadium tour. Sheryl Crow and John Mayer will also remain teamed up on their joint tour until mid-October.

Travers Stakes

Horse racing enthusiasts are preparing for one of the most prestigious events in the country as the summer racing season comes to a close.

The Travers Stakes will be held this Saturday, August 26 just outside of Saratoga Springs, New York. The event is the oldest thoroughbred horse race in the United States and the highlight of the annual Saratoga Horse Racing. The Saratoga Racing season lasts for six weeks and will be finishing on Labor Day weekend this year. Horse racing will continue in New York in early October with the Belmont Stakes.

We Think They Can Dance

So You Think You Can Dance is hitting the road for its first national tour, featuring the top ten dancers from the television series.

The dancers, including winner Benji Schwimmer, will begin their jaunt across North America on September 12 in Seattle Washington and continue through to the end of October. It's not the only reality television series to take the show on the road though with the American Idols Live tour currently underway and the Rock Star band Supernova getting set to name a lead singer and begin touring.
