The Color Purple seeing Green

The Color Purple has shattered box office records, making it the highest grossing production for the 2005-06 season.

The musical adaptation of Alice Walker's classic novel broke the Broadway Theatre's house record for gross amount earned in mid-June and has since broken its own record twice. At the 2006 Tony Awards, lead actress in the play, LaChanze, won for best actress in a musical beating out productions including The Drowsy Chaperone and Sweeney Todd. The Color Purple will be going on a national tour in 2007.
